Why I Blog
It wasn't too many generations ago that we all lived in small, tight-knit communities. Neighbor interacting with neighbor was not only unavoidable it was necessary for survival. Now our cities have grown so large and our lives so busy it is not unusual to not even know our neighbors. We value our privacy so much that we rush from our car to the front door so that no one delays us as we escape into our own space. When a stranger is friendly we are suspicious of their motives. We take our kids to the park and hesitate to enter into other's conversations for fear of being rejected. We are a lonely generation.
Living in a city like Calgary, where everything is so spread out, it takes a lot of planning and time to get together with friends. Add in everyone's conflicting schedules, kids, dinner, laundry, and winter and isolation becomes very real. Thank God for social media! When I can share the nitty gritty details of my day, the good times become great and the sad times are easier to bear.
You may not walk out of your tent in the morning and be able to see how I am dressed or if there is a smile on my face but you will probably read my status update. Blogs and tweets bring communal living back from the days of small towns and villages, Main Street and neighbors who know your name. So to my friends, both old and new, let me share my life with you, from the delightful details of raising my son to the trivial details of my current likes and dislikes. Maybe you will laugh at me or with me, either way I hope I can add something positive to your day.
